Easter Eggstravanganza
The District of Taylor ‘Easter Eggstravaganza’ is held annually on or near Easter long weekend (generally on the Saturday) at the Taylor Community Hall.

This event sees approximately 500+ Taylor and regional attendees to participate in carnival-style games and activities. Activities in the past have included: Face-painting, Bouncy Castles, Cake Walks, Photobooth, Pictures with the Easter Bunny, as well as additional games. Lunch is typically served along with cupcake treats in addition to the loot bags each child receives.

The party costs $2.00 at the door or Taylor residents are able to pick up free tickets for entry to the Easter Party.

Taylor Hill Climb

The Taylor Hill Climb began in 2010 during the filming of TV Show ‘Village on a Diet’ that took place in the community. Since then, the Taylor Hill Climb has become an annual event to encourage citizens to keep active.

Event staff set up tables with free water and healthy snacks for climbers in front of Taylor Elementary School as well as additional games or events may take place.

A draw is done for all participating climbers to win a prize. This event usually takes place at the end of May/beginning of June (weather depending).

WORLDS INVITATIONAL GOLD PANNING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Every year during the August long weekend, we host our annual World’s Invitational Gold Panning Championship at Peace Island Park. This exciting event is open to anyone and there’s opportunities to volunteer and get involved in our committee meetings.

This three-day event features an arts and craft fair, dinners, baking and other fun competitions, family campfires and open jam sessions, pancake breakfasts, and of course… panning for gold!

Gold panning competitions are held for a variety of different ages and categories so there’s plenty of opportunity to win! Winners are honoured during closing award ceremonies.

HEALTHY WALK TO BREAKFAST

The Healthy Walk to Breakfast is a Council initiative that sees the District of Taylor provide breakfast at the Community Hall for students and staff of Taylor Elementary.

Taking place the first week of October, Taylor Elementary walks to the Community Hall to take part in this delicious event.

Breakfast is cooked by Community Services staff and volunteers from Council serve the meal to the children.

Classes arrive in stages to prevent a large number of students arriving at the same time.

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR

The annual District of Taylor ‘Halloween Spooktacular’ is held annually on the Saturday before Halloween at the Taylor Community Hall. This event sees approximately 500+ Taylor and regional attendees to participate in carnival-style games and activities.

Activities in the past have included: Bouncy Castles, Cake Walks, Photo booth, as well as additional games. Lunch is typically served along with cupcake treats in addition to the loot bags each child receives.

The party costs $2.00 at the door or Taylor residents are able to pick up free tickets for entry to the Halloween Party.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

The District of Taylor has hosted a Remembrance Day Ceremony for a number of years at the Taylor Community Hall.

The Colour Guard marches from the District Ice Centre to the Taylor Community Hall at which time the ceremony gets underway. The Fort St. John Rotary Pipe Band will play with the procession on Odd-Years (other years they take part in the ceremony at the Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion). The Last Post, Rouse and Reveille take part at exact time in keeping with traditional Remembrance Day ceremonies.

After the ceremony concludes, the Colour Guard will take wreaths and go to the outdoor cenotaph. If someone would like a wreath laid, but cannot be in attendance, Taylor Fire and Rescue members will lay wreaths on their behalf. A light lunch is served after the laying of the wreaths.

SANTA SKATE

The Santa Skate is a free skating and pictures with Santa Claus event that takes place at the District Ice Centre.

Free skating takes place on the leisure and main ice sheets while pictures with Santa are done in the decorated lobby. This event usually takes place the first weekend of December.

CHRISTMAS LIGHT-UP CONTEST

The Christmas Light up Contest is a lighting and display contest in which residents decorate their houses in a festive fashion with prizes awarded to the best displays as chosen by the District of Taylor judge(s).

Judges drive through the community on a predetermined night to choose their top displays. The top three winners receive prizes as well as a letter and certificate from Council. This event usually takes place mid-December.
