It is becoming a fall tradition to gather your friends and family, lace on your shoes, bring our pledge sheets and attend the District of Taylor Terry Fox Run. The iconic image of Terry running during the 143 days of his Marathon of Hope does not convey the full picture of that historic effort.  When Terry recognized that he would not be able to complete his Marathon, he instead bequeathed his mission to all Canadians who kept him going day in and day out.

Now 30 + years later Canadians have adopted Terry’s mission of finding a cure for all cancers with an enthusiasm and passion that has done him proud. In keeping with the approach of its founder, The Terry Fox Run is an innovative and volunteer-led, all-inclusive event with no corporate sponsorship, incentives or fundraising minimums. Come on out Taylor it is our turn to take on the Terry Fox challenge.

Often shortened to t'ai chi, taiji or tai chi in English usage, T'ai chi ch'uan or tàijíquán is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. It is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons: its hard and soft martial art technique, demonstration competitions, and longevity. As a result, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims. Some training forms of t'ai chi ch'uan are especially known for being practiced with relatively slow movement.

The ESS Program relies on trained members of a community to meet the needs of people in an emergency. Most communities have an ESS team that works with local businesses to share resources during a crisis. Preparing for an emergency depends on the energy, creativity, commitment and dedication of volunteers.

Tai Chi is a system of exercise that originated in ancient Chinese Martial Arts and has now become the most practiced health and exercise system in the world.  Often recognized by its slow, graceful and flowing but controlled movements, it combines standing postures with movement, stretching, relaxation and meditation.

Tai Chi Exercises target the quality and function of the physical structure by working to improve body posture, balance, co-ordination and mobility. Taiji is primarily practiced as a sequence of choreographed moves called a form.. The controlled, mindful, movements of taiji have led many to refer to it as “meditation in motion”.

Taiji is practiced by millions of people worldwide, both Eastern and Western. The vast majority of them practice taiji for its health benefits, which have been proven to be wide ranging and significant. In particular, taiji has been found to reduce stress, improve balance, lower blood pressure and help relieve symptoms for a variety of illnesses, including cancer, Parkinson’s, arthritis, and diabetes among others.

This annual Marathon of Hope for Cancer Research will take place on Sunday, September 18 at the Lone Wolf Golf Course

Participaction Trail with registration starting at 10am and the run/walk at 11am

Terry Fox, a Canadian hero, showed the world what could be achieved if we all worked together. His courage in face of adversity teaches us that nothing is impossible or out of reach! Let us, therefore keep his memory alive and embrace this great cause by taking part in making his dream of a world without cancer, a reality. After all it is an investment in our own health and that of people close to us.

Every year, we seem to get more and more major breakthroughs in the attempt to extricate this terrible disease, due, in great part, to the proceeds from the Terry Fox Run and its Foundation. The percentage of recovery increases due to the funds collected from this and other events for which we thank all the contributors. Let us be part of what Terry started!

Pledge sheets are available at the Taylor Visitor Centre daily from 9am-5pm.

While the Resource Municipalities Coalition supports the important role that the resource municipalities and rural communities play in supporting existing and future resource development, the resource municipalities and rural communities cannot be defined solely on the basis of their service centre function but must be seen as economically diversified and socially vibrant municipalities and rural communities that will continue to develop and prosper in the long term.

"2017 Marks the 25th Anniversary of the Fort St. John International Air Show!

We’re celebrating with a 2 day show on July 22 & 23 and bringing back the one and only Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the incredible CF-18 Fighter demonstration and Canada’s own military parachute team, The Skyhawks!

But WAIT…the thrills and chills don’t stop there! We’ve got the best of the best civilian acts too! Kent Pietsch comedy show is back, you will be impressed as Kent manoeuvres his interstate cadet without an aileron….or tries to land on the top of a truck with the worlds shortest runway attached to the roof of it!

Third Strike Wing walker, Carol Pilon will be joining us this year. Carol is the only Canadian Wing Walker and will defy gravity as she amazes the crowd with her wing walking skills….did I mention she’s crazy!

Pyro Jet Show will be joining us this year, this jet truck is equipped a 12,000 horsepower engine – a Fire breathing Monster that produces 6000 lbs of thrust and is capable of speed in
excess of 300 mph!

For those World War II buffs, Yellow Thunder joins us with their Harvard Formation team. Hailing from Edmonton, these two planes are sure to be a crowd pleaser!

There is a lot more in store at the 2017 Fort St. John International Air Show! Please check this website as we get closer to show times to see the most up-to-date list of our performers.

This family event will also feature ground displays, fireworks, kids fun zone and more!"
