Participaction Trail
If you are not a golfer, you may wish to take advantage of another facility that is unique to our region. A partially paved 4.2-kilometer participaction trail meanders around and encompasses the Lone Wolf Golf Course. Open to joggers, walkers and cyclists. The trail is also accessible to those in wheelchairs or baby strollers except for the unpaved ravine section at the far end of the trail.
Paving was completed on three sides of the golf course, but the eastern end was purposely left in a natural state as it wanders through a treed coulee and over two bridges that span an intermittent stream. Professional staff employed at the golf course maintains this trail. As such it is just perfect for the walking enthusiast and the early morning jogger! It is also a great place to take your children for a stroll, extremely clean and away from the dangers of the street. The only caution is that there are a couple of places where you might have to wait for a moment as golfers have the right-of-way.
Its route adjacent to farmland, the golf course and through this coulee provides a perfect setting for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Sightings of deer, moose, foxes and even the occasional black bear are common place. In addition, throughout the nature walk through the coulee, there are numerous types of wildflowers, shrubs and vegetation to observe or photograph.
Spaced along the trail are a number of seating areas and picnic tables for your convenience, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that such a beautiful setting provides.
Peace Island Park Trail System
These newly developed trails are just the latest addition to Peace Island Park. Winding through lush forest and along the banks of the mighty and majestic Peace River, the trails are a great place to go for an adventure or to just relax and enjoy Mother Nature.
The trail system is for non motorized activities such as walking, running and mountain biking. Groomed in the winter for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding, these trails are fun for everyone year round. Check out the Taylor Sled Dog Races in January as mushers race their teams of dogs through the groomed trails.
One can see deer, moose and event the occasional black bear while on the trails due to their proximity to the Peace River and the hills. While the trails provide a perfect setting for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts, the trees in the area are a spectacular sight to see as well.
As the trail system continues to be enhanced and grow in the years to come, interpretive signage (ie. Identification of flora and fauna), wildlife viewing areas, and other improvements will be made.
As you venture out for an adventure, please remember to do your part and respect Mother Nature by taking pictures and leaving only footprints. In other words, pack out what you pack in to keep the area free of garbage! The plants, animals and other users will be thankful!
