Engine 11 arrives in Taylor

Mayor, Council, Taylor Fire Rescue members and familes greeted the custom built Engine 11 to its new home in Taylor.

Arriving Friday February 21st, 2020 Engine 11 was greeted by a century old tradition of pushing the new apparatus into the firehall by the current and former members.

Early hand drawn fire engines, ladder wagons, hose carts, and so on had to be pushed back into the station by hand. The horse drawn steam engines that followed could be backed up by the engineers, but it was difficult to align the steam connections on the engine with those in the station, so the horses were disconnected and the steamers were also often pushed back into the station by hand.

All of this backing in by hand became moot when the self propelled motorized engines went into service; but the fire service is deep into tradition, and Taylor Fire Rescue wanted to make every effort to honor and pay homage to past and oldtime members that had to push their engines into the station by hand pushing the new ones into the station.

Replacing the existing Engine 11, the new engine will be put through a strict 8 week driver and equipment training regiment with the staff and volunteers, going into service the first week of May.  Join us at activities during the Emergency Preparedness Week May 4-8, 2020 to check out the new Engine 11.
