Taylor Tots Pre-school

Located in the Taylor Elementary School, the Taylor Tots Pre-School was opened in September of 2004 by the District of Taylor’s Community Services Department. Licensed by the Northern Health Authority to provide Pre-School programming and services for children 30 months to school age, Taylor Tots is often described by parents and children alike as “their favorite time of day”.

Starting with two classes and only 16 children the first year, Taylor Tots Pre-School now runs class sessions Monday & Wednesday and Tuesday & Thursday both in the morning (8:30-11:30am) and afternoon (12:00-3:00pm). Taylor Tots Pre-School operates October through June.

The Taylor Tots Pre-School Teacher encourages parents/caregivers to become as involved as ‘Parent Helpers’. All parents/caregivers will appreciate the requirement for a completed and approved criminal record check. Should you have any questions or ideas PLEASE feel free to discuss them with the Teacher. Alternatively, the District of Taylor Community Services Director’s ‘open door policy’ enables parents/caregivers to have their ideas and thoughts heard at any time.

Our Philosophy

Taylor Tots Pre-school is designed to help children achieve the fullest development possible and help prepare them for kindergarten. We strive to develop self-esteem and encourage positive interaction with others and promote learning. We do this by providing a variety of play opportunities to develop social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative skills. Further, the curriculum encourages:

  • Co-operation
  • Sharing materials and ideas
  • Becoming Responsible for their own feelings as well as others
  • Learning to solve problems individually and with others
  • Trying new things
  • Developing physical fitness skills
  • Taking care of ourselves and our things
  • The introduction of letters, numbers and colours

Fees

Taylor Tots Pre-School fees are $10.00 per day, and are calculated into a monthly bill, to be paid at the District of Taylor Office (10007 – 100 A Street) prior to the beginning of each month. All accounts must be paid in full by the beginning of each month. Taylor Tots Pre-School is closed all statutory holidays.

Registration Information

Parents/Caregivers must complete a registration application and submit it for processing prior to a child’s first day of class. Through this process, parents/caregivers will choose the session-days they wish their child to attend. Through the processing stage, the Preschool Teacher will confirm availability of space, or alternatively suggest available space in alternate sessions. Taylor Elementary School

The first schoolhouse in Taylor was built in 1919 and was know as the Taylor Flats School. This 16X24 foot log building with two windows was built by the people of the area. There were 12 desks and Mrs. Easton was the first teacher. We take pride in knowing that the Taylor Flats School was the first school north of the Peace River in the British Columbia Peace River Block. The present day Taylor Elementary School was built in 1937 and is home to the Taylor Tigers. With kindergarten to grade 7 the school has 135-140 students enrolled. There are six teachers, a principle and nine support staff.
