Taylor Business - Economic Development

Taylor is in a strong financial position with a stable tax base thanks to a well-developed industrial sector that supports high service levels for its citizens and the fastest growing residential sector in the region.

The Council of the District of Taylor strives to ensure our community provides a positive and affordable alternative for the development of residential housing, commercial ventures and industry in the Peace Region. In other words, our staff adopts a "service first" attitude to ensure the community is open to you or your business. One only needs to compare our tax rates and land costs with other communities in the Peace Region to recognize the cooperative advantage of developing or living within our community.

Business opportunities abound in Taylor, as our commercial sector growth has not kept pace with our residential and industrial growth. At present, the service center located in Fort St. John (a 36-kilometer round trip) meets the needs of our residents- but there is a growing demand for services in Taylor due to the inconvenience of the drive.

For example, a recent MarkTrend poll indicates a strong need for a local grocery store, along with banking and other services. As a result, Council is prepared to work and/or partner with any individual or organization to provide these services. Some of the incentives offered for commercial development are no development cost charges, no business licence fees, the lowest commercial tax rate in the region and a strong desire to help you, the business man or women succeed in our community!

As for residential development, there is a strong desire to see a greater number of new homes on the market, a townhouse/condominium as well as seniors housing - even with the fantastic residential growth we are already experiencing. The District has the land, and is prepared to partner in any of these developments.

We can say with pride and total commitment that we are open for business! Few other communities can offer what we have. Our community is B.C.'s undiscovered little gem- a gem that only needs a little polish to become truly extraordinary. Won't you come and see "Where Peace and Prosperity Meet"!
