2018 Property Taxes

All residents should receive their 2018 Property Tax Notices in the mail during the month of May. If you have not received your notice by the end of May, please contact the District office as soon as possible.  The payment “due date” this year is July 3, 2018.  This means that all taxes must be paid and the Home  Owner’s Grant (if applicable) must be claimed no later than 4:30 pm on July 3, 2017 in order to avoid the 10% penalty.  The District of Taylor accepts the following forms of payment: cash, cheque, Interac, Visa, and MasterCard. Online bill payments can be made through the following financial institutions: North Peace Savings and Credit Union, Scotiabank, BMO Bank of Montreal, and TD Canada Trust.  Should you elect to pay online or at your financial institution, please allow sufficient time for your payment to be processed; if the District of Taylor does not receive your payment by 4:30 pm on July 3, 2018, the penalty will be applied.
 
If your financial institution is paying your taxes on your behalf, and if you are eligible for this grant, you still must complete the Home Owner Grant application form on the back of the tax notice and submit it to the District of Taylor municipal office (not to your lender) by the due date. The mill rate for the “General Municipal” portion of your 2018 property taxes (the taxes that the District of Taylor levies AND keeps as revenue) has increased slightly this year. Overall, property assessments in Taylor are lower on average this year than in 2017. Generally the municipal portion collected this year should be about the same amount as last year.  This means that if your taxable property assessment decreased by the class average, your taxes will have remained close to the same.  If your assessment decreased more than the average, your taxes will be a bit less; whereas if your assessment increased, your taxes this year will be more.  
If you have water and sewer parcel taxes on your tax notice, this means that you have available access to the municipal water and sewer systems.  These taxes are $90.00 for water and $90.00 for sewer per legal parcel of property.  These parcel taxes are different than the water/sewer/garbage user fees that were billed earlier this year.
 
All other taxes on the tax notice – such as School Taxes, Regional District, Regional Hospital, BC Assessment Authority, Police and Municipal Finance Authority taxes – are collected by the District of Taylor for other governments and agencies. Some of these taxes have increased and others have decreased slightly from 2017.
