Community Services Director

The District of Taylor is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to fill the position of Community Services Director.  If you are passionate about “building community” and fostering community spirit, you may be just who we’re looking for! Our unique and progressive community is located in the beautiful Peace River Valley where the Alaska Highway crosses the Peace River.  We are an industrially based community with an approximate population of 1,500.  This growth is largely the result of an excellent tax base that supports recreation and leisure facilities second to none for communities of comparable size. These facilities include an 18-hole championship golf course, an award winning 2 surface arena, 400 + seat community hall, library, medical clinic, 4 ice surface curling rink, 5 kilometre paved participation trail, 400 + acre campground on the Peace River, a seasonal 25m swimming pool and tracked cross country ski trails in the winter.

Reporting to the Administrator, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
i. Planning, development, implementation and operation of educational, tourism & cultural, recreational, special events and other related programs in the community.
ii. Supervising the work of the info center, pool, preschool, summer camp, Events & Program Coordinator, and other employees assigned.
iii. Planning, development and implementation of strategic plans, pricing and cost recovery strategies, and annual operating and capital budgets.
iv. Provide technical and professional advice and reports to Council and Committees of Council on departmental matters.

Qualifications:
• An undergraduate degree with a recreation focus, diploma with experience in management and recreation administration, or equivalent thereof is an asset
• Experience working with community groups and associations, planning and hosting events, as well as recruiting, retaining and building positive relationships with volunteers.
• Two years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies and the public.

The salary for the position is in the $65,000 range, but is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefit package is also offered. Please note the successful candidate will be required to enter into a management contract.
